SNOWMOBILING MARSHALL PASS.
If you’re into exploring the Colorado outdoors this winter, consider a snowmobile tour up Marshall Pass to the Continental Divide. Topping off at 10,800 feet, Marshall Pass offers amazing views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountain range. Accessing Marshall Pass is via groomed trails provided by the Heart of the Rockies Snowmobile Club.
There is also a more wooded, single track trail that accesses Marshall Pass and the Hutchinson Barnett Cabin, a great emergency shelter and point of reference when traveling over Marshall Pass.
During your snowmobile tour, keep your eyes peeled for mule deer, elk, moose and other wildlife that call this amazing woodland home. Winter snowfall makes for good tracking of wildlife.
Marshall Pass is found off of Poncha Pass, west of Salida, Colorado. This popular snowmobile destination is an old railroad grade that travels over Mt Ouray to Sargents, Colorado. Enjoy snowmobiling past O’Haver Lake, a small reservoir and popular fishing destination for summer travelers.
After a day in the Colorado elements, local snowmobilers enjoy relaxing in nearby geothermic hot springs found in this valley. Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort is open to the public and is a newly refurbished all natural hot spring resort located at the base of Mount Princeton and the Chalk Cliffs.
Out-of-state residents who bring snowmobiles into Colorado must purchase a Colorado Non-Resident Snowmobile permit which is valid from the date of purchase through the following September 30th. Permits can be purchased by mail or ordered online at the Colorado State Parks E-Store. Three different snowmobile clubs groom the snowmobile trails in the area.
