MOUNT PRINCETON HOT SPRINGS RESORT
UPPER & LOWER SAND CREEK LAKES.
These lakes sit in the Sangre de Cristo wilderness. The trek is approximately 3.5 miles (one way) to elevations around 11,500 ft. Beautiful red renditions are seen in the cutthroats caught here under Tijeras Peak (13,612 ft). Milwaukee Peak (13,530ft) and Pico Aislado Peak (13,606ft) provide a beautiful cirque to the West. The two plus pound cutthroats caught in these lakes provided me with some of the most memorable Alpine Lake experiences I have had. Specific County Road and trailhead information can be found in a guidebook “Central Colorado Alpine Lakes“.
