Colorado is truly home to some of the best golf in world. There are three golf courses near Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort in the Arkansas River Valley. Did you know that at high altitude your golf shots will travel further? You just may have to figure out how to control your distance. When golfing at high altitudes in Colorado, be sure to stay hydrated. Activity at higher altitudes can dehydrate you faster. It is also easier to get out of breath golfing in Colorado. You may want to start with nine holes the first day and ease yourself into eighteen holes the next day so your body can adjust.
The Salida Golf Club is a nine hole, public course. The greens are small and fast, there is water on 8 of the holes, and the usual pace is two hours for nine holes. The course is on a slope, but is easy to walk. Trees define each fairway but are not numerous enough to lose your ball in them.
North of Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort, in Leadville, is the highest golf course in America. Originally established in 1939, Mt. Massive Golf Course is a nine hole public course, located at 9,640 feet above sea level. Sitting at the base of the two highest peaks in Colorado.
