MOUNT PRINCETON
HOT SPRINGS RESORT
Whether you are Jeeping, ATVing or dirt biking, Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort is in the center of it all. You may bring your own Jeep, ATV or Dirt Bike or there are places that you may rent an off road vehicle. If your vehicles are not registered to be driven on the road, please leave them on your trailer while you are at the resort.
Just 14 miles, from the resort, up Chalk Creek Canyon is the ghost town of St. Elmo. This old mining town is the hub of everything outdoors and is a 4X4 paradise. Located at the base of one of the classic 4X4 loops in the lower 48, head up to St. Elmo and do a day trip over Tincup Pass to the ghost town of Tin Cup and back over Hancock Pass. Conveniently located to hundreds of other off-road trails, our helpful staff will give you all the advice you’ll need to choose the off-roading experience that speaks to your interests. Our full-service gas station located on-site offers a convenient fill up!
The weather in Buena Vista, Colorado and the Arkansas River Valley makes 4X4 off roading available almost year round. During the winter, the mountains will be covered with snow making this the perfect Colorado snowmobiling destination but across the valley in the Four Mile Recreation Area there are hundreds of miles of roads and single track trails that may be utilized almost year round. If you are interested in rock crawling one of the most popular rock crawling destinations is Chinaman’s Gulch located in the Four Mile Recreation Area.
OHV Travel Tips
Off highway vehicles allow us to travel faster and further into the backcountry than we ever imagined. With this privilege comes the responsibility to be considerate of fellow wheeled and non-wheeled adventurers, wildlife, and the fragile high alpine ecosystem.
Stay the trail. Never travel off the designated route or into private property.
Slow down and give space to your fellow adventurers traveling on foot and bicycle. It’s hard enough to hike and bike uphill, so help keep the dust down.
Leave gates as you found them, or as marked. Close the gate behind you if the gate is closed when you drive up. Leave open if it’s open, unless signage states otherwise.
Louder doesn’t mean faster. The maximum noise limit under Colorado State Law is 96 decibels. Use the appropriate exhaust system for trail riding. Race systems are smaller and have less packing material inside to absorb the sound, so get that fixed before heading out into the wilderness.
Pull over to the side of the trail and stop to let faster vehicles pass. Choose appropriate places to allow others to pass and be patient with other trail users. Avoid sensitive vegetation when parking along routes.
